DEEP’s Dive Medical Technician (DMT) course provides a comprehensive overview of the critical roles, responsibilities, and obligations of a DMT within the subsea industry, with an emphasis on safety and compliance.

The course aligns with global medical and diving safety standards (NBDHMT in the U.S., IMCA in the UK), equipping attendees for critical response roles and providing a recognised qualification for offshore and remote diving operations.

What you'll learn

The DMT course equips experienced diversand other professionals with the competencies required to manage routine and medical emergencies in dive operations.

After completing the course, you’ll be able to:

  • Assess a diver's physical fitness and conduct neurological assessments.
  • Conduct post-dive evaluations to monitor recovery and detect symptoms.
  • Administer first aid and advanced medical care for diving-related injuries or conditions.
  • Identify symptoms of diving-related emergencies and implement appropriate treatment.
  • Perform inspections and maintenance of hyperbaric chambers to ensure safety and compliance.
  • Conduct emergency drills with dive teams to ensure preparedness for medical incidents.

Training environment and facilities

The UK based course takes place at DEEP Campus, a centre for underwater training and innovation in Chepstow in the Southwest of the UK. The heart of the site is an 80 meter deep lake, where our saturation training facility is located.

The US based course takes place at DEEP Station Florida, a world-class facility for advanced dive training and underwater habitat operations.

Accommodation can be arranged upon request.

Certificate

Certification awarded: Dive Medical Technician (DMT)
Ceritifying body:
  • National Board of Diving & Hyperbaric MedicalTechnology (NBDHMT) – US
  • International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) – UK
Ceritification validity: 2 years (recertification required)
Scope: Diving medicine, hyperbaric operations, subsea medical support
Applicable environments: Offshore, commercial diving, navy and army, and  hyperbaric facilities
Medical authority: Defined scope of practice under operational  protocols

Career outcomes 

Gain a recognised certification as a Diver Medical Technician (DMT), a requirement for many offshore and subsearoles.

Prerequisites and entry requirements

For IMCA certification, attendees should hold: an IMCA recognised diver training, certificate, a diving supervisor certificate or a valid IMCA/AODC LST certificate.

A DEEP DMT certificate will be awarded to other attendees.
